KOMEYUI occupies a site in Southbank, having relocated there in 2020 after opening originally in Port Melbourne in 2011. The restaurant offers Edomae sushi omakase either at the sushi counter, where pieces are shaped in front of diners, or at a table in the main dining room. A private room is also available for group bookings.

Chef Motomu Kumano, known as Kuma, grew up in a fishing town in Hokkaido before moving to Australia in 2005 and opening KOMEYUI in Melbourne in 2011. As owner and director, he oversees the seasonal omakase menus, developed together with the Melbourne and Brisbane teams.

Service runs Tuesday to Sunday, with lunch from 11:30am to 2:30pm and dinner from 5:30pm to 10pm; the restaurant is closed Mondays, including public holidays, though it opens on Sundays that fall on a public holiday. A 15% service surcharge applies on public holidays. The dining room is decorated with prints from Komeyui, a series by Melbourne photographer Carlo Oggioni.

The restaurant falls into the upscale price tier and is counter-focused, with lunch omakase available alongside dinner service. Beyond regular dining, KOMEYUI Melbourne can be hired in part or in full for private events, celebrations and corporate functions, and offers catering and gift vouchers through its website.
