Sushi Shigenaga operates a single counter of eight seats in Kita-Shinchi, one of Osaka's dining districts, a few minutes' walk from JR Tozai Line's Kitashinchi Station. The room is counter-only, built with an emphasis on wood and quiet, so guests focus on the sushi being prepared in front of them.

The kitchen builds its course around Edomae-style nigiri, using fish sourced largely from Kyushu, including Amakusa in Kumamoto Prefecture. Seasonal dishes are worked into the course alongside the sushi, and the restaurant pairs these with a selection of sake chosen by the owner, rather than treating the drink list as an afterthought.

Service runs in two seatings most nights, starting at 18:00 and 20:45, though Sundays run a single 18:00 seating only. The restaurant is closed on irregular days, including two Sundays a month, plus public holidays. Seating is counter-only and the full room can be booked for private use for up to eight guests on request.

The restaurant asks diners to arrive on time for the seated start, to flag allergies or dietary restrictions at the time of booking, and to remove watches or bracelets that might scratch the single-board counter. Strong perfume, smoking, and loud conversation are discouraged out of consideration for other guests at the counter. Children 15 and under are not accepted; high school age and older guests may dine if they can eat the same course as adults. Cancellations are requested at least two days in advance, after which the full course charge may apply. Payment is accepted by major credit cards; cash is not required and electronic money is not accepted. An English menu is available, and credit cards include Visa, Mastercard, Amex, JCB, and Diners.
